Temu product titles: what the first 80 characters need to say

For UK sellers bringing Amazon, eBay or Shopify listings to Temu. You get the title limits, a word order for the part buyers see, and three worked examples.

About 80 characters show.Spend them well.

Short answer

Only about 80 characters of a Temu product title show in search results, and Temu search reads the title and the images. Put the product type first, then the attribute buyers look for, then size or quantity. Use the rest of the title for secondary detail.

What buyers see and what search reads

Two facts decide how a Temu title should be written. About 80 characters of it show in Temu search results, and Temu search reads the title and the images.

So a title has two jobs. The first 80 characters are for the buyer scrolling a results page, who decides in a glance whether your product is the thing they wanted. The rest of the title is the place for secondary terms, compatible models and extra detail.

The images matter too, because search reads them. A title that says "grey dog bed" over a photo of a brown one is working against itself.

Check exported titles for runs of spaces before you upload. Titles built by joining spreadsheet columns often end up with runs of spaces where a column was empty. The title is only one of the required fields, and the full set is covered in our guide to Temu listing requirements for UK sellers.

A word order for the first 80 characters

This order is our practical suggestion, built from the facts above. It puts the words a buyer needs to recognise the product inside the part of the title they can see.

  1. What it is. The plain product type, in the words a buyer would type. "Dog bed", "phone case", "face serum".
  2. The key attribute buyers look for. The one thing that splits your product from the others on the page. For a phone case that is the phone model. For a dog bed it is the size of dog. For a serum it is the main ingredient.
  3. Size or quantity. Dimensions, volume, pack count. A buyer comparing two similar listings will often choose on this.
  4. The rest. Colour, material, secondary features, other compatible models, alternative names for the product. Most of this lands after character 80, which is fine. Search still reads it.

Read your first 80 characters on their own, as if the title stopped there. If a stranger could tell what the product is, who or what it fits and how much of it they get, the visible part is doing its job.

Say each thing once. A title that repeats "dog bed" four times in different forms uses up visible space and tells the buyer nothing new.

Three before and after examples

The products and titles below are made up to show the word order. They are not test results, and we are not claiming any sales effect from them.

In the phone case "before", the first 80 characters end around "Protective". The buyer sees a brand they may not know and two filler words, and the colour never appears. In the "after", the model, the product type, the material and the colour all sit inside the visible part.

The dog bed "before" says "dog bed" in five different ways and leaves the size as a single letter at the very end. The "after" gives the dog size, the washable cover and the dimensions in centimetres before the cut.

The serum "before" never says what is in the bottle or how much of it there is. "Best" and "miracle" are claims a buyer cannot check from a results page. The "after" leads with the ingredient and the volume, which are the two things a buyer can compare.

Why Amazon titles often read badly on Temu

This is reasoning from the 80-character limit. We have not measured it.

Say your Amazon title opens with the brand. That suits a shopper who already knows the brand and is looking for it. On Temu, with about 80 characters showing, a brand the buyer has never heard of takes the space where the product type should be.

The second habit is keyword stuffing. Titles get packed with every variant of a search term, so the visible part reads like a list of synonyms. There is room for those extra terms after the part buyers see. The first 80 can read like a description of one product.

If an existing title uses abbreviations, check whether spelling them out makes the visible opening clearer. On Temu you have room to write "Large" instead of "L" and to add the size in centimetres.

What belongs in attributes instead

Each Temu category asks for its own product details, such as an age group, battery details or material. Details that have their own field should go there and can stay out of the title. That keeps the first 80 characters clear.

The same goes for longer selling points. Care instructions, what is in the box and guarantees belong in the description, not the title.

Check your titles before you upload

Rewriting a few titles by hand is quick. Rewriting a whole catalogue is where the time goes, so check which titles need work before you start.

Titled scores Temu product titles and rewrites the weak ones. You can run a few checks free without an account, which is enough to see how your current Amazon or eBay titles hold up.

If you are moving a full catalogue, Upload turns an Amazon, eBay or Shopify export into Temu upload files, category by category, and shows what each listing is missing first. Temu wants its own template per category, so the export cannot go straight in.

We are also building Rank, which will check titles and descriptions against Temu's rules. It is not live yet.

FAQQuick answers

Questions

How many characters of a Temu title show in search?

About 80. Write the first 80 so a buyer can tell what the product is, what it fits and how much they get, and put secondary detail after that.

Can I reuse my Amazon titles on Temu?

You can, but most will need reordering. If your Amazon title opens with the brand, check whether the product type appears within the first 80 characters. Move the product type and key attribute to the front.

Should the brand name go in a Temu title?

If buyers search for your brand by name, keep it near the front. If they do not know it yet, put the product type first and the brand later in the title.

Is there a free Temu title checker?

Yes. Titled, from Seller Spring, scores Temu product titles and rewrites weak ones. A few checks are free without an account. Seller Spring is independent and is not part of Temu.
