Understanding Temu's Fulfilment Options for UK Sellers

One of the biggest concerns UK sellers have before joining Temu is fulfilment. On Amazon, FBA has become so dominant that many sellers have restructured their entire operations around it — and the thought of setting up a parallel fulfilment process for another marketplace can feel daunting.

The good news: Temu's fulfilment model for UK sellers is dramatically simpler than Amazon's. There's no mandatory fulfilment programme, no requirement to send inventory to Temu warehouses, and no complex fee structure layered on top of your shipping costs. You use your own warehouse, your own couriers, and your own processes.

Here's everything you need to know.

Temu's Fulfilment Model: Seller-Fulfilled

For UK-based sellers, Temu operates a seller-fulfilled model. This means you store your own inventory, pick and pack your own orders, and ship directly to customers using your own courier arrangements. Temu doesn't handle any physical logistics on your behalf.

This is fundamentally different from Amazon's approach, where FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) is heavily incentivised and practically required to compete for the Buy Box. On Temu, there is no equivalent programme and no disadvantage to fulfilling orders yourself.

What this means in practice:

If you're already fulfilling orders for your own website, eBay, or any non-FBA Amazon orders, you already have everything you need to fulfil Temu orders. There's zero additional infrastructure required.

Shipping Requirements and Expectations

Temu sets certain delivery expectations that sellers need to meet. These are reasonable and aligned with standard UK e-commerce delivery norms:

MetricTemu requirementRecommendation
Dispatch timeWithin 48 hours of orderWithin 24 hours (improves ranking)
UK delivery timeframe3–7 business days2–4 days (improves customer satisfaction)
Tracking requirementMandatoryUse a tracked service with real-time updates
Packaging standardSecure, branded optionalClean, protective packaging. Branded where possible

The most important metric is dispatch time. Temu's algorithm tracks how quickly you process orders, and sellers who consistently dispatch within 24 hours receive a measurable ranking boost compared to those who take 48 hours.

Courier Options for UK Sellers

You can use any UK courier service that provides tracking information. The most popular options among SellerSpring clients are:

Royal Mail / Parcelforce

The most widely used option for small-to-medium items. Royal Mail Tracked 48 offers a cost-effective balance of price and delivery speed for most products. For larger or heavier items, Parcelforce provides next-day and two-day services with full tracking.

DPD / DPD Local

Popular with sellers who want to offer a premium delivery experience. DPD provides one-hour delivery windows, real-time tracking, and photo proof of delivery. Slightly more expensive than Royal Mail but generates higher customer satisfaction scores.

Evri (formerly Hermes)

The budget-friendly option. Evri's standard service is typically 20–30% cheaper than Royal Mail for parcels, though delivery times can be slightly longer and tracking updates less frequent. Suitable for lower-value items where shipping cost is a significant factor.

Amazon Shipping / third-party aggregators

Some sellers use shipping aggregators like Packlink, ShipStation, or ParcelBright to compare rates across multiple carriers in real-time. This is particularly useful for sellers with varied product sizes and weights, as the cheapest carrier often varies by parcel dimensions.

SellerSpring advantage: As an official Temu agency partner, we've negotiated reduced shipping rates with several major UK carriers on behalf of our clients. Depending on your volume and parcel profile, this can reduce your per-unit shipping cost by 15–25% — a saving that compounds significantly as your Temu sales grow.

Using a 3PL (Third-Party Logistics Provider)

If you already use a 3PL for your other channels, the good news is that integrating Temu orders into your existing 3PL workflow is straightforward. Most modern 3PLs can receive orders from Temu through one of two methods:

1. Direct API integration

If your 3PL supports Temu's API (increasingly common in 2026), orders can flow automatically from Temu to your 3PL system. The 3PL picks, packs, and dispatches, then uploads tracking information back to Temu — all without manual intervention.

2. Through a listing/order management tool

Tools like Linnworks, Rithum (formerly ChannelAdvisor), and Brightpearl can pull Temu orders into your centralised order management system and route them to your 3PL. This is the approach most multi-channel sellers use, as it keeps all orders — Amazon, eBay, Shopify, Temu — in a single system.

SellerSpring can set up either integration for you as part of our launch package. If you're already using one of the supported listing tools, the Temu connection can typically be configured within 24–48 hours.

Shipping Cost Benchmarks

To help you estimate your per-unit shipping cost, here are current benchmark rates for common product types:

Product typeTypical weightEstimated shipping cost
Small accessories (under 250g)100–250g£1.80–£2.50
Medium items (250g–1kg)250g–1kg£2.80–£3.80
Larger items (1–2kg)1–2kg£3.50–£5.00
Heavy/bulky items (2–5kg)2–5kg£5.00–£8.00

These are standard retail rates. Volume discounts, SellerSpring's negotiated rates, and 3PL contract rates can reduce these significantly.

Free Shipping: Should You Offer It?

Temu doesn't require sellers to offer free shipping, but our data is clear: listings with free shipping consistently outperform those with separate shipping charges. Across our client base, free-shipping listings see:

The recommended approach is to build your shipping cost into the product price. A £14.99 product with free shipping performs significantly better than a £11.99 product with £3.00 shipping — even though the total cost to the customer is essentially the same.

Returns: How They Work

Temu's returns process for UK sellers follows a buyer-initiated model:

  1. Customer requests a return through the Temu app
  2. If the return reason qualifies (defective, not as described, etc.), the return is automatically approved
  3. Customer ships the product back to your registered returns address
  4. You receive and inspect the return
  5. Temu processes the refund to the customer and reverses the commission charge to you

Average return rates for UK sellers on Temu are 5–8%, which is comparable to or slightly lower than Amazon. The most common return reasons are "item not as described" (which is why accurate listings are so important) and "changed their mind."

Getting Started

If you're already running an e-commerce operation in the UK — whether from your own stockroom, a shared warehouse, or a 3PL — you have everything you need to fulfil Temu orders. There's no new infrastructure to build, no mandatory programme to join, and no additional fees to pay beyond your standard shipping costs.

The operational simplicity of Temu's fulfilment model is one of its biggest advantages for UK sellers. You can add Temu as a new sales channel without disrupting your existing operations — and start seeing revenue from it within days of going live.
